Cookies and browser storage

Small bits of browser storage should not come with a mystery attached. Here is what this edition uses—and what it does not.

Cookies are not the same as localStorage

Cookies are small values a browser can store and send with matching website requests. localStorage is a separate browser facility that keeps values for a site's origin until they are cleared. This site's supplied JavaScript does not set browser cookies. It uses localStorage only if you choose to save a preference using the controls below.

The site code includes no analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking services. No optional cookie is activated by choosing Accept. This page's preference controls record a choice only; they are not permission for undisclosed future tracking.

Your preference

Both choices leave this edition free of optional cookies. Saving either choice writes one local preference. You can remove it at any time.

No optional cookies are active. JavaScript is needed to read or change a saved preference.

Copying and downloading are separate

Using Copy on the contact page places text on your clipboard if your browser allows it. Using Download creates a file on your device. These actions do not use cookies, but the text or file may remain until you delete it. Clipboard-history and browser form-restoration features are controlled by your device and browser, not this website.

Changing your mind

Choose Essential Only to replace a previously saved acceptance value. Choose Forget Preference to remove this site's preference key. You may also clear this site's data in your browser settings; that can remove other data associated with this origin if services have been added outside the supplied site code.

If localStorage is blocked or unavailable, the controls display a message instead of silently claiming the preference was saved. Reading the guides and using navigation do not depend on preference storage.

Hosting and linked sites

Ordinary web requests still reach the hosting infrastructure. Server-set cookies or additional services introduced by a deployment operator are outside the behaviour of the supplied static script and must be assessed and disclosed separately. Following an external link may lead to a website with its own cookies and choices.

If optional tracking is introduced later, its purpose, providers, retention and controls should be explained before it operates where consent is required. A preference saved here is not a substitute for a clear, current choice about a new purpose.
